The Connected Communities research project aims to explore the potential of community centres as a setting for community-based health promotion activities.
It is also looking at ways to reduce socially-determined barriers to health in a disadvantaged community. The pilot study will focus on a Family and Neighbourhood Centre in Perth.
Methods
The study comprised three components:
- a survey of local community members attitudes towards the community centre as a setting for social and health related activities
- mapping of the social networks amongst community member participants
- stakeholder interviews to determine and examine critical success factors used in the community centre to overcome socially determined barriers to health promotion
